The Boiler Service

When one of our heating engineers visits your home, they will turn up at the agreed time. Engineers will show you their Gas Safe Registered ID card before starting work. We follow a strict procedure when it comes to servicing Boilers.

1. The Boiler case is removed from the Boiler, and signs of leaks or corrosion are checked. Sometimes, the Boiler case can corrode due to leaking water and condensation. In the event of a corroded casing, we will always attempt to source a new case. Leaks in Boilers usually occur due to old, corroded seals or failed pressure valves. (often caused by too much pressure in the system). We carry many parts in stock to change a seal or valve if a leak is present. We will also check all pipework to ensure no leaks are present.
2. Every boiler seal is checked to ensure they are tight.
3. Waterflow is checked to ensure your Boiler is running at the correct pressure. Sometimes, blockages in the system can restrict water. This can cause your boiler to switch off repeatedly.
4. The Boiler and components are thoroughly cleaned. Cleaning helps your boiler run smoother. Allowing us to perform the required tests accurately.
5. The gas burner pressure is checked. If the burner pressure is incorrect, it’s adjusted as required.
6. A gas rate check is conducted using a gas meter. The gas rate checks determine whether your boiler is burning the correct amount per hour.
7. A flue gas analysis check is run. The flue gas analyser is placed in the flue, measuring the amount of oxygen, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. The flue gas analysis will determine whether your boiler is safe and efficient.
8. Ventilation’s checked. Ventilation is important for boilers to work properly. For every cubic meter of gas, 10 cubic meters of air are required for complete combustion. Proper ventilation prevents carbon monoxide poisoning. Our engineers will ensure your ventilation is adequate.
9. The Boiler Flue’s checked. The Boiler Flue allows all exhaust gases from your boiler to escape outside. Improperly set flues can enable household heat to escape as well. Unnecessary and a waste of money. We will ensure your flu is in good working order. Expelling all noxious gases while retaining valuable heat.
10. All Boiler safety devices are checked to ensure they work. Your boiler has safety devices built in, such as safety and relief valves. These are all checked to prevent any potential boiler damage in the event of failure.
11. The Boiler and pipework are checked for leaking gas. Leaking gas can be fatal. But don’t worry. Everything’s checked to ensure no leaking gas from your boiler or pipes.
12. Once the service is complete, your boiler’s switched on. Our engineers will check that all your radiators are heating up. If your radiators are not getting hot at the top, you may have too much air in the system. We can bleed your radiators if necessary. Sometimes, radiators build up sludge and debris. Preventing radiators from getting hot in the middle and bottom. We may recommend a power flush if we find this is the case.
13. We will check your outdoor pipes and make sure they’re not prone to freezing. In winter, frozen water expands and may split uninsulated pipes—a common cause of boiler breakdown. We will make recommendations on any pipes that are not lagged and could freeze.
14. A service record’s written for you. The record will prove your Boiler has been serviced professionally.
