Boiler Repairs
- No Call-Out Charges
- Good Prices
- Same Day
Boilers have a lifespan of around 10-15 years. Over this period, your Boiler has worked hard to supply you and your family with hot water. Therefore, boilers break down from time to time. Even those that are serviced every year.
TM Hughes gas engineers are fully qualified and have over 30 years of experience repairing broken-down Boilers.
Boiler breakdowns can be very unpleasant, especially in the depths of winter. But don’t worry, if there is a Boiler breakdown, our local heating engineer can be with you within two hours. Your boiler will be up and running swiftly and in good working order.
You won’t get stung on the price either. We have no call-out charges. We make sure our customers are always happy with our fair prices.
Rates are often reviewed to ensure this. TM Hughes & Son engineers are Gas Safe registered and Worcester Bosch accredited. We issue free no-obligation quotes. We’re qualified to repair many boiler parts.
We carry Boiler parts in stock and can source most other components on the same day if necessary.
Boiler Issues we Repair
There are many reasons why a Boiler breaks down. Over the years, we have seen them all.
If your Boiler breaks down, ensure a qualified gas engineer looks at it. Interfering with a Boiler and central heating system is dangerous. And it can cause unnecessary damage, making your problem worse.
Here are some of the common Boiler Repairs we undertake.
Kettling
Over time, sludge and limescale can build up in a Boiler. This issue’s called kettling. This unwanted buildup blocks the water flow inside the heat exchanger.
The heat exchanger then overheats, creating loud noises in your boiler and pipes. If left alone, kettling can cause the Boiler to fail, so a new heat exchanger is required.
If you’re suffering from loud noises in the system, it’s best to get your heating system power flushed. Before any damage is done, it shortens the lifespan of your boiler.
Leaking
Never ignore a leaking Boiler. Leaks can cause your boiler to short-circuit and fail. Leaking water from Boilers can also cause water damage elsewhere in your home.
Usually, a leaking Boiler is fixable by renewing a faulty seal or pressure valve. Too much pressure in your system can cause a valve to fail. If so, our engineer will set the correct system pressure for you once the valve is repaired or changed.
It’s prevalent for a pump seal to wear out, causing leaking. Changing the pump seals is a common boiler repair job. Sometimes old Boilers leak around the pipes. This could be due to improper fitting or corrosion.
Boiler Keeps Switching Off
If your Boiler keeps switching off, it could be due to low pressure. If low pressure is the issue, repressurising the boiler to the correct pressure can sometimes be enough to fix it.
Otherwise, a blockage in the system could restrict water flow. An obstruction will need to be removed.
A blocked or failed pump can cause low pressure, making the Boiler switch itself off. In this case, the pump will need to be looked at.
Old Thermostats
An old, unreliable thermostat can cause Boiler issues. Your Boiler could be in full working order, but the thermostat is inaccurate or has failed, preventing your Boiler from working. If your thermostat is the cause, a new one will fix your Boiler issue.
Pilot Light Keeps Going Out
Your Boiler will stop working if the pilot light isn’t on. If your pilot light keeps going out, the first thing to check is the gas supply. It won’t stay on if enough gas doesn’t reach the Boiler.
The main cause of an extinguished pilot light is a malfunctioning thermocouple. Stopping gas from entering your Boiler. One of our engineers can change a faulty thermocouple for you.
A new thermocouple ensures enough gas gets to the Boiler, and the pilot light isn’t blown out. So your Boiler will run all the time.
Low Pressure
Your Boiler and central heating system require some pressure to operate. If the pressure is absent, your Boiler won’t work.
A leak in the system can cause low pressure, and so can a faulty pressure relief valve. A leak in the system can be nasty.
Water damage to your home could occur. One of our engineers will identify a leak in the system or a faulty valve. Getting your pressure back up to where it needs to be.
Unusual Noises
Unusual noises in your Boiler or central heating system need to be looked at upon discovery. These noises can indicate a fault in the system, such as failing pumps, too much air, or low pressure. It’s best to examine these faults before they become serious issues.
Condensate Pipe Frozen
The wastewater from the modern condensing Boiler is expelled outside via a condensate pipe. These pipes should be insulated to prevent freezing in winter. A frozen and thus blocked condensate pipe can stop your Boiler from working. Frozen pipes need defrosting.
Radiators are not heating up.
If your Boiler’s not working, your radiators won’t heat up. If your Boiler is working and your radiators are not heating up, you have one of two issues.
- If there’s too much air in the system, heat isn’t distributed around the radiators as it should be.
- If the radiators are only getting hot at the bottom, the system has too much air.
A simple bleed will remedy this. You can do this yourself, or one of our engineers will gladly do it for you.
If your radiators are cold at the bottom and middle, you likely have a sludge buildup in the system. A power flush will get your system back to full working order.
Boiler Breakdown Prevention
Boilers work pretty much every day of the year. Boilers must be well-maintained if you want them to last and not let you down. An annual Boiler service will minimise the risk of a Boiler breakdown.
Insulating vulnerable pipes in cold areas will prevent freezing problems. (which can lead to boiler breakdowns in winter). If you suspect a fault in your central heating system, call us. We will be more than happy to check your Boiler and system for you.
Boiler and central heating issues will never repair themselves. Left alone, issues can become more severe and expensive problems that may write off the Boiler, requiring a new one.
In The Event Of A Boiler Breakdown
Give us a call immediately. We will give you advice over the phone and have one of our engineers with you within two hours. Turn your Boiler and central heating system off until we arrive.
Turn off your mains stopcock if you see or suspect any leaking water to prevent water damage to your home. Our engineer will identify and rectify your boiler problem.
We have repaired Boilers in many homes in the area over the years. We have a good reputation for repairing boilers. And an impeccable customer service record.
We guarantee you will be happy with our Boiler repair services and prices.
